1. New Forms for Retail Shop Leases in Queensland
Further to our update entitled ‘Changes to Retail Shop Leases in Queensland’ from June this year (‘June Update’), we note that the Retail Shop Leases Amendment Act 2016 (Qld) commenced on 25 November 2016.
As a result of the commencement, the approved forms under the Retail Shop Leases Regulation 2006 were amended on 2 December 2016. The amended forms can be found here.
Further information, once available, will be provided though the Queensland Government’s Business and Industry portal. A summary of key changes made by the Retail Shop Leases Amendment Act 2016 (Qld) can be found here.

2. Stakeholder Briefings on Planning Changes
The Department of Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning has announced a statewide series of ‘talk to the planner’ sessions and briefings to outline the key drivers, changes and effects in the new draft versions of the State Planning Policy (SPP), State Development Assessment Provisions (SDAP) and the draft Planning Regulation.

The review of the SPP, SDAP and draft Planning Regulation follow the successful passage of the Planning Act 2016 (Qld). Draft versions of these instruments available for public consultation until 10 February 2017, it is intended for the renewed instruments to commence with the new planning system (currently scheduled for 3 July 2017).
